Daim Akeel
Daim Aqeel is a seven-year-old boy. His father, Akeel Masih, works as a rickshaw driver. Daim’s mother cannot work because she needs to take care of him. Daim has three siblings: one brother and two sisters. He suffers from polio, which has left one side of his body very weak.
Daim was a perfectly healthy and happy child until he was three years old. He received polio drops from a government program that administered vaccinations door-to-door. A few hours after receiving the drops, Daim developed a high fever, he lost his speech and the right side of his body became paralyzed.
His parents claim that the drops were expired, causing his condition. They lodged a complaint with the officials, who did not acknowledge any fault but promised to cover Daim’s treatment costs.
Daim then went into a coma and spent a year in the ICU. He was later moved to the general ward for three years. Due to Daim’s illness, his siblings could not continue their education as he is the youngest.
After four years in the hospital, Daim returned home with an NG tube for feeding. His sister shared that they took Daim to a prayer meeting after his return from the hospital, where it is believed he was healed by the Lord, enabling him to eat food normally again.
He started attending our program five months ago, initially very scared and reluctant to leave his mother. Now, his parents are very grateful to our organization, noting that Daim has become more active and social.
He loves books, though he cannot actually read yet, but he tries to say a few words. He enjoys coming to our center regularly, showing enthusiasm for games, coloring, and learning poems with actions, to play with other kids and participate in various activities.
